To all  Participants in the Boys' Summer School  2009

I hope you and your families had a wonderful Christmas and are all set to welcome the New Year with an exciting and fulfilling few days at the Summer School in January.

I have spoken to some of you on the phone, and I am writing to give you some final information, and to give you a contact, so that if you have any last-minute queries you can either send me an email or give me a call.

We are looking forward to seeing you all, and if our previous Summer Schools in 2007 and 2008 are any indication, you are all set to have a fantastic time, working with top dance teachers, and making new friends along the way.

RESIDENTS

For residents, the starting time is 8.45am Monday January 5, except that, as most are aware, the boarding house will be open from 4pm on Sunday January 4, and you will be most welcome to arrive at or after this time and stay the night without additional cost, to ensure a prompt start the next day.  (Dinner not provided but we will probably order a pizza delivery).

Location

Blue Street, North Sydney.

Shore School is not hard to find; it's just up the hill from North Sydney Station - in fact you can see the main gates from there.  Just come through the gates (no extended parking inside, but see note re parking for the Sausage Sizzle below) and walk across the open area to the right, and you will see the glass walls of the theatre foyer at the top of the stairs.  (If you get lost, just call me on my mobile phone and I'll find you.)

What to Bring

You will need to bring: 6 days change of clothes and dance gear, towel and swimmers, toiletries and anything else to make you comfortable for the duration.  We will provide all linen including pillows.  As there is a possibility of attending a Sydney festival performance, please also include some presentable casual wear (including collared shirt).

Spending Money

As far as spending money is concerned, we are planning an outing to Luna Park (a 10 minute walk from the School), and this will involve about $40 for rides, plus enough for take-away food.  Also, weather permitting, there is the possibility of a trip to Manly for a swim, returning by ferry/train.  We will cover the transport costs but it's likely the evening meal will be at one of the food courts in Manly.  Perhaps around $70 - $80 total for the week.

 Catering

Apart from the take aways during the outings, all meals will be supplied.  Breakfast will be cereal such as muesli/weet bix, plus orange juice, yoghurt and toast. If there is a particular cereal you want for breakfast, let me know.  Lunches will be light salads with bread and plenty of fresh fruit.  At least one evening meal will be a bar-b-que by the pool.

NON-RESIDENTS

For non-residents, bring yourselves and your gear, and aim to arrive between 8am and 8.45am on Monday January 5. (Juniors 12pm). We will finish on Saturday with a sausage sizzle with parents and friends by the pool. (more on that below).

Lunches will be provided, and it is not expected that participants will have any need to leave the campus during the day.  (We are self-catering this year, and if there are any parents who would like to help with preparing lunch, we'd love to hear from you).

Special Note to Non-Residents

One of the attractions of being a resident at the Summer School is the opportunity to meet new friends and to share in social activities away from the studio - whether just having fun in the pool, or going on an outing together.  We encourage all participants to take the residential option, even those who live locally, and if during the week any non-resident would like to stay over (on a pro rata basis), he would be most welcome to do so.  We would also be very happy for you to join us on any of the outings, as long as you have transport home afterwards.

Final Concert and Sausage Sizzle

The Summer School will end with an informal concert in the Smith Auditorium, followed by a sausage sizzle by the pool. We will advise you of the exact time through your sons and on the website (http://boyssummerschool.net )during the week, but the concert will likely commence at around midday.  If you are bringing children they may bring their swimmers, but please be responsible for their supervision!  (No one under 10 please).  The best option for parking is the Bishopsgate car park in Union Street, on the South Western corner of the School campus. Walk diagonally through the School to the opposite North Eastern corner and that is where the Smith Auditorium is located.
